Here is a 3 minute video from Brené Brown on empathy.
This struck home for me! I am totally busted! I am the "at least" person. I say this all the time when someone comes to me with something tough in their life. It comes from a place of not wanting my friend to feel bad and wanting to make it better. Unfortunately, that isn't always what someone needs to hear. I will work on more often say things like "Thank you for sharing with me," or "I am here for you." Often times, we simply want someone to genuinely listen and validate our feelings rather than actually solve the problem or make us feel better.
This video helped me learn something that will help me connect with others better.
